Being brought up in Birmingham we developed a love of it’s brutalist masterpieces, especially this gem by the legendary John Madin (Brum’s answer to Gaudi if ever there was one). Unfortunately those in power did not share in our civic pride and the public land it stood on was sold to private developers and the library torn down in 2016. This is one of a series of images Luke took as a farewell project during its final days until the bulldozers demolished it ready to be replaced with generic internationalist offices. Yup we’re still bitter, but comforted by the fond memories of after school studying and that awe inspiring view when turning past the council house from New Street.

Printed on A3 Pro Platinum Matt photographic card. Available unframed or framed in a retro style black wooden frame, with glass.
